I will be honest. When I saw the title I expected more from the article. I thought it was going to be like our last several readings with narratives and great facts and making the reader face up to the consequences of terrible cycles we have created. But instead, it was hard for me to get through this.
The section that did jump out at me the most, though, was what we’ve talked about before; students as consumers at colleges. I think colleges and universities, especially the larger more known facilites, have been almost forced into this trend with logos and food and the mindset of business. One area I think colleges can improve upon, is becoming more personal with their students. They create the illusion that they are being personal through the way they set up campus and the programs available, when in reality, there are only those few professors and staff who really get to know their students. And I know some of them feel obligated to get to know their students because of that business mindset. I know I appreciate those who truly want to get to know me just because they want to and just to see me grow and learn and become independent over the next few years. I have had many teachers from elementary and high school who have gotten to know me on a personal level just because it is rewarding for both of us. I think I would like to see levels of higher education become more for the student because they care, not because I am a customer.

Student Activists Versus the Corporate University
This reading wasn’t as intense as the others. It proves a point though: we, as college students, are beginning to realize that we must act in order to bring about change. In order to do this, we need to go after the big name brands. We need to do this in order to make a point. Once these company’s are “called out” the other smaller, less known, however, just as important company’s will follow the leader. Students can make more of an impact, because there is more of our young generation who has the patience and energy to do so. But it’s also like we said in class, it can’t just be one person, one person cannot do it alone. It takes many people to be outraged aong with that one person in order to capture attention. This attention will spark interest and in and of itself, create change that others will want to be a part of.
