It is crazy to think that South Korean women are so accepting of Confucian philosophy that they are willing to work hard for their families, despite the dreadful conditions surrounding them.  We take full advantage of their willingness; these women not only endure low wages, but put up with unsanitary conditions and sexual harassment.  Likewise, it is ridiculous that in Haiti there is not enough money for food, education, and medicine.  Families do not earn enough money even to survive.   I think it is terrible that there are foul working conditions and workers can’t say anything about it as well.  They know if they do speak up, they will be fired.  How can the United States let this happen?  Is it really necessary that the sales price of a tshirt in the US be equal to 5 days wages in Haiti?  I admire Martin Espada for rejecting Nike’s job offer.  It takes a lot of guts to decline something like that, but its little things like that that will ultimately make a difference in the world.  If we all rejected Nike, perhaps we would change the lives of many factory workers.
