I do love America, but it sickens me sometimes. Yes, we are in debt to no end. Yes, we are an ultra-consuming nation. Adding to the list of flaws, we make people in other countries work long hours for next to nothing to make things that are insanely overpriced to those of us here. If some of these items were truly designer, the designer would hire people themselves or just plain old make them themselves. I know, I’m a hypocrite, I wear Hollister on occasion and I’m sure the majority of my other clothes were made in Vietnam or Indonesia as well. The parody ad made a lot of sense, and it does make you think critically.
I’m not going to lie, I chose KU mainly for the price. I didn’t want to pay more to live at home and go to Penn State Berks than to live on campus here. I’m lucky that I have as many scholarships as I have, and my family is still struggling. There is no doubt in my mind that college educations are an even bigger cause of debt than anything else, including cars or homes, in some cases. It is insanely overpriced. College makes me sad sometimes that way. I think about how I’m having a great time meeting new friends, but at the same time I’m paying for it. Am I paying for friends? Am I paying for an education? Did I find some crazy combination of both? The world may never know.
